Back to the Stone Age: the Ötzi Glacier Tour

In the footsteps of the Iceman

You surely know him: Ötzi, the world-famous Iceman. Only a few aerial kilometres away from our mountain hotel in South Tyrol, a mummy was discovered by coincidence on 19 September 1991. A few days after that, it turned out to be a sensational discovery. Even after so many years, Ötzi the Iceman continues to fascinate us. Visiting the discovery site is at the top of the bucket list for many history buffs and mountaineers.

We are often asked how best to get from our hotel in the Val Senales/Schnalstal to the discovery site at the Giogo di Tisa/Tisenjoch. Not alone, that’s our answer. There are numerous dangers lurking along the way, such as deep crevasses. On an active holiday in South Tyrol, experienced mountain guides who know the right route can take you on the Ötzi Glacier Tour from July to April, which starts directly at our hotel. In a safe rope team, you cross the glacier and the main Alpine ridge to the Giogo di Tisa/Tisenjoch either on foot or on touring skis. A good level of fitness and sure-footedness are required for the daylong glacier tour. Registering with the tourist office Val Senales/Schnalstal or with us at the reception is necessary. The ski tour takes place from December to April, and the high tour takes place from July to October.

Did you know ...
... that Ötzi, the “Iceman”, was found just four kilometres away from our hotel?
