“HIGH” PLEASURE: 5 CURIOSITIES ABOUT OUR RESTAURANT IN THE MOUNTAINS

Whether in the snow or in the summer sunshine, our high-altitude restaurant in Val Senales will tempt you. Sometimes for a savoury snack, sometimes for a sweet and juicy apple strudel. What many people don't know: there are quite a few curious things to tell about our panoramic restaurant on the glacier.

1. Cooking here requires "highly" skilled hands.

How do you cook an egg at high altitude again? That's right: boiling water at high altitudes is not the same as in the valley. Boiling and cooking times change depending on atmospheric pressure - the lower it is with increasing altitude, the faster the water boils. The boiling point drops by around 1°C for every 300 metres of altitude. This means that in our mountain kitchen at the Glacier Hotel Grawand, it already bubbles at less than 90°C. "Great", you might think, "then my pasta will be cooked even faster." But you're wrong: as the water temperature doesn't rise above boiling point, the cooking times are correspondingly longer. But don't worry, a little more patience pays off. Our experts in the "high" art of cooking will spoil you all the more.

2. Enjoyment is intense in our restaurant in the mountains.

It may be due to the fresh mountain air, the physical activity, or simply the fantastic view: in our panoramic glacier restaurant in South Tyrol, you experience pleasure intensely. Scientists have also discovered that fruity flavours in particular are accentuated at high altitudes. Let's go for the Kaiserschmarrn with cranberries then!

3. We like our ingredients to be local.

And that's not just because it's a long way from exotic countries to the glacier. We like, even prefer, to work with local producers. Whether for breakfast or dinner in the mountains: we serve what the local area has to offer, whether it's baker's bread or mountain farm meat. The main thing is that it is high-quality, fresh, and tasty!

4. At the restaurant in the mountains, the surname quickly changes to first name.

"At over 2,000 metres, you're on a first-name basis", so the saying goes. The fact is: at our high-altitude glacier restaurant, we attach great importance to a familiar and relaxed atmosphere. After all, having someone as a guest so high up is an honour, and the smile with which you are greeted is correspondingly broad. Of course, this also applies when you check in as a holiday guest at our hotel with half board in Italy. Here in Val Senales, we are always down-to-earth and authentic - just as it should be in the mountains.

5. You eat with your eyes first – that certainly is true!

Looking for a high-altitude restaurant with a view? Bingo! A total of 126 three-thousand-metre peaks greet you when you sit down on our terrace. The valley head, which gave our "Alpin Arena Schnals" its name, also greets you from below. It goes without saying that in a panoramic restaurant, you eat with your eyes first. Everything tastes even better with a view after all.
